Wellbeing Initiatives Inc.
Who We Are
Wellbeing Initiatives is a non-profit organization developed, driven, and run by peers. By offering a variety of on-site trainings, peer-support opportunities, and community involvement, Wellbeing Initiatives aims to encourage our community of peers to reach beyond themselves to find purpose and potential in the challenges we face.
We have recognized a need in our community and strive to meet that need through peer support. Peer Support is an approach to recovery in which people with lived experience of mental health and substance use challenges learn and grow together in a recovery focused environment.
Peer Support Specialists are people with lived experience of mental health and substance use challenges who have received intensive training and have completed the certification process to be a certified Peer Support Specialist in the state of Nebraska. As a Peer Support Specialist they are able to promote wellness and recovery through mutual relationship.
Through this social connection, people with mental health and substance use challenges are encouraged to develop skills in a non-clinical environment that fosters the growth of natural support networks. This, in turn, allows us to interact more fully with the community, navigate education, employment, and health resources more effectively, and exercise self-advocacy.
The Mission of Wellbeing Initiatives is to empower individuals living with mental health and substance use challenges to reach their fullest potential. We strive to do this by supporting peer’s right to be the expert in their own recovery.
The Vision of Wellbeing Initiatives is to provide individuals with access to comprehensive programs, education, and opportunities for growth that will produce a well-established community of peers capable of affecting positive change and growth in behavioral health services across the state.
The Values Philosophy of Wellbeing Initiatives is based in the belief that a well-informed, adequately supported, and purpose-driven community of peers will result in a higher quality of life, greater independence, and more effective use of professional services. Wellbeing Initiatives is striving to provide alternatives to higher levels of care, fight stigma, address institutionalized thinking and language, and promote self-advocacy.
“I could walk a mile in your shoes. But I already know they’re just as uncomfortable as mine. Let’s walk next to each other instead.”
– Lynda Meyers
